Happy Maritime Day, everyone!

Today is ‪World Maritime Day ( IMO – INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION )

WMD2014

Every year IMO celebrates World Maritime Day.
The exact date is left to individual Governments but is usually celebrated during the last week in September.
The day is used to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment and to emphasize a particular aspect of IMO’s work.

Each World Maritime Day has its own theme, which is reflected in IMO’s work throughout the year in question, and its own logo – some of which are reproduced in the montage above.

IMO has, over the years, built up an enviable track record for developing and adopting new international conventions, some 53 in all, aimed at ensuring that international shipping keeps up to date with technical and technological advances in safety, that it addresses the ever increasing number of environmental challenges and concerns of Member Governments
